Biography

Shayna T. Blum is an accomplished professional with a diverse background in the fields of UX research and design, product design, academia, and entrepreneurship. Her career reflects a combination of academic, industry, and entrepreneurial accomplishments in the field of design, with a particular emphasis on user experience, design research, and international perspectives. Her contributions to academia and her active engagement in research demonstrate her dedication to advancing the field of design and technology.

Blum has worked for Monterey Technologies Inc., a firm specializing in Human Factors Engineering and Systems Engineering for the defense industry, and Penn Mutual, an insurance company. She has also held positions as an Assistant Professor of Design at the Xavier University of Louisiana, a UX/UI Design Expert at Chegg Thinkful, and she is the Founder of BDRL Llc, a remote design laboratory.

Blum earned her Master of Fine Art (MFA) in Design and Technology (D&T) from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2009. She completed a Post Baccalaureate program in Text and Image Design at Tufts University, School of the Museum of Fine Art, Boston in 2006. Her Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) degree was obtained from the Lyme Academy of Fine Art in 2001. She studied foundation courses and Interior Design at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, from 1996-1998.

With 20 years of experience in the visual communication and design industry, Blum is an expert in design research and design thinking processes. Her scholarship focuses on the study of design and technology within global urban environments, and she has published articles on topics related to user experience design, design thinking, and typography research. Blum's research efforts influenced the introduction of new courses at Xavier University of Louisiana, demonstrating her commitment to education.

Blum holds certificates in User Experience and Interface (UX/UI) Design from the American Graphics Institute and in Modern Hebrew from Tel Aviv University. She has received grants to support her research and projects, including the Andrew W. Mellon Grant, the Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) Center for Undergraduate Research (CURGO) Mellon Grant, and a grant from the Confucius Institute.
